We are looking for a full-time social media/web producer who can help Free Press Indiana take a creative, inclusive approach to serving the news and information needs of residents in Indianapolis and across the state.

Free Press Indiana is launching a new statewide reporting team focused on community service journalism and storytelling that serves all 92 counties. This expansion builds on the proven success of Indianapolis-based newsroom, Mirror Indy. This team will cover issues that matter to Hoosiers in rural communities, cities and small towns, and work with media partners to help fill news gaps.

  • Wants to collaborate with journalists to help them grow their reach and impact.
  • Has proven skills in creating graphics and editing short videos.
  • Can write short-form copy in a conversational, accessible way.
  • Has some knowledge of WordPress, HTML, WordPress and video editing software.
  • Can work under deadlines and organize your workflow. Attention to detail is crucial.
Responsibilities & Priorities
  • Plan, implement, schedule and publish daily content across multiple social media channels.
  • Create original content for social media and help reporters translate their stories for different formats.
  • Publish stories on the Mirror Indy and Free Press Indiana websites. Do basic copy-editing and write headlines and other display copy as needed.
  • Produce newsletters.
  • Work with the social media strategist, web producer and audience development director to track monthly goals and use data to inform our strategies.
  • Work a 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. shift Monday through Friday. Some evenings and weekends will be required, depending on events, breaking news and special projects.
Compensation and Benefits
  • Salary: Minimum $55,000, commensurate with experience.
  • Benefits: Full health benefits, including employee’s medical premium covered 100%; paid leave including two weeks of closures during the year for all staff, generous personal time policy, and a 401K with a 4% match.
  • Training: $2,000 stipend toward outside training and professional development opportunities.‍
  • Hybrid role flexible within Indiana: If you live in Indianapolis, you’ll work in the office Tuesdays-Thursdays. If you live in a different area of the state, we’ll ensure you are connected to the team from wherever you live. Travel will be required sometimes to capture coverage or convene with the team
