We’ve been making a lot of progress on launching our statewide newsroom over the last couple months, and we’re ready to share some exciting updates.

To start, you can call us Free Press Indiana News, or FPI News.

Our reporting will aim to help Hoosiers understand the decisions shaping life across Indiana.

From schools and healthcare to taxes and housing costs, choices made at the Statehouse affect communities in every corner of the state. But understanding what those decisions mean for your family and your community is not always easy.

That’s where we come in.

We believe that when people understand what’s happening in Indiana, they are better equipped to engage in their communities and shape what comes next.

Our work is led by a growing team of journalists who are deeply curious about this state. We’re excited to announce the following hires:

  • Laura Lane, formerly a longtime reporter for The Herald-Times in Bloomington, is our rural communities reporter.
  • Dylan Peers McCoy, formerly an investigative reporter for WFYI in Indianapolis, is one of our civic accountability reporters.
  • Carson Gerber, formerly a statewide reporter for newspaper chain owner CNHI, is also a civic accountability reporter.

Together, our team is committed to producing free, independent journalism that helps Hoosiers better understand their state.

Starting June 15, you’ll be able to find our work on most social media platforms — Facebook, Instagram, X, Threads and Bluesky. Please follow us there and sign up for our weekly newsletter, The Lens. And stay tuned for a website launch later this summer.

If you have story ideas, questions or tips from your community, let us know.
